Six years ago on my wedding day, I was full of energy and life, celebrating with friends and family. But that would be the last time I’d be doing that for a while…
A couple of days later, my husband and I were off on our honeymoon. I was exhausted, running on adrenaline, but super excited for our travels!
I loved to travel – see new places, meet new people, experience the history, culture and food…Ahhh…I couldn’t wait!
Â
Just like with our wedding (see my previous post), I had planned an over-the-top two month backpacking trip across Western Europe and the Seychelles. It was going to be epic!
Â
Epic it certainly was…

You know how it is when you’ve been working yourself to the bone and you finally go on vacation to relax?…And then you inevitably get sick?
Â
Well, I had neglected myself and my health for so long (I’m talking years) that half-way through our honeymoon I had a total break down.
Â
I was putting on a brave face with a smile, but I was totally burnt out.
Â
I completely crashed physically and emotionally, and our honeymoon adventure came to an abrupt end.
Â
I had reached a point where everything I had known in my life started to crumble. I felt I was losing control of my reality.Â
Â
We were in gorgeous, incredible Italy, and I walked around numb to all of its beauty and wonder. I felt lost and I was 6900 kms from home.
Â
What could I do?...
Â
Queue the cliff-hanger music and stay tuned for my next post!
